We're not sure why, but Chase's new year's resolution this year was to learn how to play basketball.  So we signed him up - and Glen too!  They have games every Saturday.  Chase's team plays half-court with a lower hoop, and even at this age, some of these kids can play!  Chase is again more interested in watching the game happen around him, but he does have a few minutes of each game where he gets involved.  He says he really enjoys it!

Glen's season started off pretty slow.  After the first practice, his first ever, he said "I'm not sure this is the sport for me."  Well, as Glen as proven, ha can play just about anything he tries and play it well.  It didn't take him long to catch up with some of the other kids on the team - and he's definitely found his strength in defense.  He's not shy about getting right up in there and blocking passes and shots.  His team is undefeated - due more to the outstanding coaches our team has - and the games are so exciting!

Daddy Glen was a substitute coach last weekend for Chase's team!  It required much patience!  We were so proud of him - and Chase, too!
Can you believe this action shot of Glen - he was seeing the net all the way down the court!  After a slow start, Glen has really improved - he must've gotten his athleticism from his Uncle Ryan!!!

A few ladies from base and myself were lucky to organize a small cooking class at the local cooking institute.  Here they train chefs, waiters, maitre d's, and all other trades associated with the restaurant business.  Our region in Italy produces more Italian chefs than any other in Italy and this institute is known nation-wide.  Students begin here at the age of 15 and study for 3 years.

Then, those training to become chefs usually study for another 2 -4 years, depending on their "track"!  Our class was 5 sessions, for 4 hours each.  Our maestro prepared 4 courses each lesson - which we then ate!  One of the appetizers is shown above.  Our maitre d' instructed us in choosing the right wine for each course, which we also enjoyed!  He showed us techniques and taught us a little of the history of the local dishes he made for us.  It was the experience of a lifetime for me!
