Florence was the first stop on our adventure across Italy on the train. The Duomo's Gothic facade dates from the 1870's. The original structure was built with a hole in its roof, awaiting the time when technology became available to construct a dome. |

Left: Palazzo Vecchio - the Medici family fortified palace. The original David stood at the entrance until 1873, where a copy stands today. Above: In the Boboli Gardens behind the gargantuan Pitti Palace Right: The view from Florence's most famous bridge, Ponte Vecchio (lined with gold and silver shops!) |
Next stop: Pisa! | Our destination: the incredible coastline of Cinque Terre, or the five lands. This traffic-free chunk of the Italian Riviera was beautiful and quaint with something for everyone. Hike the trails between towns, take the milk-run train, or ride a boat from beach to beach! From every point the sights were amazing. |
From Vernazza you can see Corniglia atop the cliffs. This was the town we stayed in. |
