Touring Italy with Grandma, Grandpa, and Merrine

Florence was the first stop on our adventure across Italy on the train.  The Duomo's Gothic facade dates from the 1870's.  The original structure was built with a hole in its roof, awaiting the time when technology became available to construct a dome.

Left:  Palazzo Vecchio - the Medici family fortified palace.  The original David stood at the entrance until 1873, where a copy stands today.

Next stop:  Pisa!

Our destination:  the incredible coastline of Cinque Terre, or the five lands.  This traffic-free chunk of the Italian Riviera was beautiful and quaint with something for everyone.  Hike the trails between towns, take the milk-run train, or ride a boat from beach to beach!  From every point the sights were amazing.

From Vernazza you can see Corniglia atop the cliffs.  This was the town we stayed in.
