A DAY in TRIESTE

Our first excursion out into Italy (after buying a car to get around in) was to Trieste on the eastern border of Italy.  It is on the eastern shore of the Adriatic Sea and is a place with LOTS of history.  We toured a castle/fortress built in the 1500's by the Venetians which was actually used by the Germans in WWII.  We also toured another estate on the outskirts of town built in the 1800's, which as you can see, was incredible!

Left:  Entering the castle through the drawbridge!                  What a great view from the top!         Right:  This cathedral was originally built before the castle, but has been altered since then.

We climbed to the top of the cathedral's bell tower up this creepy, narrow stairwell!

Miramar Castle was indescribable!  We'll have to take you there when you come visit us!
