Who is Saint Lucy?
For history she was a Christian martyr.
For the children in Parma, she is a special saint: on the night between the 12th and the 13th (saint Lucy's Eve) she brings presents to all good children, with her cart and her donkey. Naughty children sometimes receive a small onion or "charcoal" too. The "charcoal" is really a kind of sweet, lamp and black.

Before going to bed some children prepare their shoe, a glass of water and some hay for Lucy's donkey, sometimes they write a letter too.
