Family:  His wife, was Carbognani Lina and he had three children : Domenico, Dino and Emilia. Dino died in Somalia during the war In 1910 he started a long relationship with Anna Lolli.

Career: Composer and conductor, his first opera was  " Cavalleria Rusticana" an example of Verismo.The premiere of Cavalleria Rusticana, winner of the Sanzogno Contest, was fantastic.He travelled as conductor in Russia, United States and South America. After Puccini's death he conducted La Boheme as an homage to  the Maestro. In 1927 he moved to Roma to the Albergo Plaza, that he will not leave until his death. 1932  was the year of his official adhesion to  the Fascist Party.
1943-1944: last season of Mascagni at the Opera di Roma.

On 2 August 1945 Mascagni died.

 

Mascagni won his first success with  Cavalleria rusticana (one act- opera) first staged in  Roma in 1890.
 This is an example of verismo, operatic realism, that exercised considerable influence.
The Opera deals with a tale of love and jealousy in a Sicilian village, the drama ending in the death of Turiddu, the young Santuzza's faithless lover whom she betrays to a man whom he has deceived .
